Learning from Noah – part 4

Hebrews 11:7 – By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

The key to Noah’s success is found in the first two words of this verse, “By faith.”  Noah had faith in God.  He believed God.  Noah took God at His word and acted accordingly.

The sin of man had gone too far, and God told Noah judgment was coming (Gen 6:13).  God would cover the world with water.  Noah was instructed to build an ark in which his household would escape the floodwaters of judgment.  Noah believed and obeyed God in faith.  Had Noah disregarded God’s word, he would have drowned with the rest of humanity.  His faith saved him and his family from destruction.

We live with a similar reality today.  Sin corrupts our world and separates us from God, and judgment is coming.  It will not come in the form of a worldwide flood, but rather Christ will return to judge every person ever conceived.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil (2 Cor 5:10).  Christ will come again.  Of this we are certain.  Will you be ready?

Noah’s ark was a picture of Jesus Christ.  As Noah entered the ark to survive the flood, we enter into Christ to survive the judgment to come.  Noah was ready when the rain began to fall.  What about you?  Will you be ready when Jesus returns?  I urge you to take God at His word and believe upon Jesus Christ for your salvation.  Cling to Jesus as though He were your only hope, because He is.

Hebrews 11:6 – And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
